The people that sign this petition are requesting that the Bowie City Council continue the current Bowie IcePlex project   We are demanding that the Council does not waste the millions of dollars in tax payer money that has already been invested.   Current estimates show that the City has spent over nine million dollars and is contractually obligated to much more.

In February, the Current City Council approved $250,00 for the public works approval of the grading permit.   In April, the Council approved $500,000.00 for a gas line and $107,000.00 for a new Zamboni to serve the new IcePlex.    All for a recreational facility that by all projections and studies will not only break even, but will create a profit for the City.  All other options have been explored, and after much discussion have been dismissed in favor of the current design.  

The existing Ice Arena is almost 50 years old.  It is in need of many repairs,  the estimate from 2018 was up to 22 million dollars.  

Why has this Council appproved almost one million dollars in expenditures over the last three months to now stop the project?

As current City Residents we use, love, and support the Ice Arena and are asking the Council allow the project to continue as designed and avoid any further delays.
