Henry Hampton - Black History, National Pride

The Issue

SAVE OUR HISTORIC BLACK LANDMARK!

A developer is trying to destroy a historic site of Black history in Roxbury. He wants to build luxury condos on the compound of the famous Civil Rights filmmaker Henry Hampton at 88 Lambert Ave: preserving the 19th-century house, while replacing the many garages, a key element of Hampton’s work and presence on the compound, with a monument to gentrification. And he’s asking for our okay!

We all know the Eyes on the Prize series that made Henry famous and brought footage of the struggle for equal rights into homes across the nation. Are we going to stand by and let a developer whitewash Black history and diminish Hampton’s legacy of empowerment, inclusiveness, and shared democracy for all people?

There is something YOU can do!

Sign this petition to oppose the destruction of this historic site. The Highland Park Neighborhood Coalition is petitioning the Boston Zoning Board to prevent the wrecking ball from moving in. Preserve this site for the future and reclaim Roxbury from the gentrification that is destroying it. We've got to move fast: Please sign this petition to save our landmark and add your support to taking back our neighborhood.
