Fire Boston Police Officers Joseph DeAngelo & Dennis Leahy

The Issue

I came across a news article about Officer Joseph DeAngelo and Dennis Leahy who made racially motivated video about black people and in the video both officers stated, "Black people have met their match". After the video came to the attention of the police department Officer DeAngelo was placed on one year suspension with 6 months of paid leave while Officer Leahy did not receive any form of discipline.

As a young black man that was born and raised and currently resides in Boston, I am already fearful enough of police officers especially with what is taking place all over the country with minorities especially African Americans and the tense and at times deadly interaction with police officers. I do not agree with the disciplinary action that were taken against these 2 officers and I believe both should be terminated from the police force.

Having both of these officers off the force may not fully terminate bias and racist comments from the Boston Police Dept. but with the power that we have as citizens we can start to make a change within our community and in the police department. Let alone Boston Police mission statement reads, "The Boston Police Department is dedicated to working in partnership with the community to fight crime, reduce fear and improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods. Our Mission is Community Policing." The racist comments that was stated by both officers is not going hand in hand with the Boston Police mission statement to work in partnership with people in the community and to reduce fear.

I hope you clearly see and understand my position and will be apart of this petition to get both officers fired from the force for racist comments.
