The Council remains uncommitted to keeping the rocket in its current form:
Daniel Freer, the Council's Director of Places and Spaces says:
"At this point, we can legitimately say that council is giving serious consideration to keeping the existing rocket at Central Gardens, but this rocket will require some modifications to meet current national safety and compliance standards.".
Council's website states:
"Refurbishment of the rocket...will impact the ‘look’ and usability of the rocket."
The Council needs to be clear about what it really proposes and give the community information about why modification is required at all.
The rocket is part of our cultural heritage.
We deserve clear answers.
Some questions for the Council:
What standards it is said to breach?
Does non-compliance mean it must be modified?
If there are no safety concerns or risks, why can't it stay as is?
On what information does the Council state that it must be changed?
