Only ONE more Councillor's vote is needed to get a change! It's time to call and email them again.

We now understand that there are FIVE Councillors who support a change. One more and there will be a majority.  It would be unfair and perhaps counterproductive to suggest who are the ones who might be more likely to change sides, and anyway they are all responsible for a decision.  

So please call your Councillor. You can find your ward here (put your address in the blue box) and the Councillors by ward here with their contacts.

It seems like the best approach is to ask for a public review of the policy. It is the least Council can do and is surely appropriate given the apparent conflict between the aims of their Climate Action Plan and the policy as it stands. 

The context is that in 2018, changes were made to the Victorian Planning Provisions to exempt the installation of solar panels in Heritage Overlay areas from requiring a planning permit as long as the system is located so it is not visible from a street (other than a lane), or public park. If this can’t be accommodated, then a planning application is required. Council  could apply to change their current policy to, for example, still require a planning application if the system is visible from a street or park, but allow it where there is no reasonable alternative, as is the case with Yarra Council's policy (see picture, with apologies for the cutoff). It seems that right now they are just saying no to applications even when there is no reasonable alternative.
