This week Boris Johnson gave evidence to the UK Covid-19 Inquiry for the last time.
The Inquiry was set up to learn lessons from his, and his government’s mistakes. For three years the Inquiry has investigated what went wrong, and how to save lives when the next crisis hits.
Clearly, Boris Johnson hasn’t been listening. Or he thinks defending his reputation is more important than learning lessons that could keep us safe in the future.
He has refused to acknowledge that by delaying lockdowns he made them longer, and less effective.
He refused to admit that he rolled out the deathly ‘Eat Out to Help Out the Virus’ scheme without consulting any scientific or medical advisors.
He refused to admit that vulnerable children were an afterthought.
This comes only a month before the Inquiry will be publishing its Module 2 Report and Recommendations. It will publish in black and white exactly how the culture in Government and political decision making plunged the UK into the darkest period in living memory. It will show how poor governance led to the UK suffering the 2nd worst death toll in Western Europe.
He was the wrong Prime Minister at the wrong time. But there are also clear lessons we can and must learn to make sure that if we ever have a Prime Minister as unable to meet the challenge of a pandemic as he was, there are systems in place to minimise damage and save lives.
When that report is published, we will need everyone’s help to fight for the truth to be heard over Johnson’s denial and bluster.

We can’t fight this without you. Thank you for standing with us.
