Today my fellow advocates, Dr Baroness NewLove and Baroness Wilcox of Newport gave compelling speeches in The House of Lords as to why NFS should be added to the DA Bill as an amendment. If you have not seen these speeches please visit 'Parliament Live', or head over to my Facebook page 'Don't Look Back'.
Baroness NewLove reminded the Lords and Ladies of the damage that NFS has on those 20,000 victims who are violently attacked and suffer NFS each year.
DA Survivors of NFS are 7 times more likely to be killed by their partner or ex-partner.
80% of survivors are likely to have a resulting health problems, e.g stroke or PTSD.
It takes just 6.8 seconds for loss of consciousness, 15 seconds for bladder incontinence, 30 seconds for bowel incontinence, 2-3 minutes for cell death, and 4-5 minutes for brain death.
There are also other health complications which occur as a result of NFS.
We as a team, The Centre for Women's Justice, AAFDA, St Mary's Sarc, supporting peers, DA Commissioner, Victim's Commissioner and Julia Drown are all pushing hard to make sure this will be a stand alone charge on the DA BIll.
Thank you all for your support, please keep sharing my petition.
