There comes a time when the cup of patience overflows, and for the 3.6m EU citizens in the UK it may be fast approaching.
Denied a vote in the referendum. Denied a vote in the European Parliament elections as a result of suspected and systematic chicanery on the part of the Theresa May Government. What will happen next?
We say give EU citizens the vote in General Elections and do it now!
Last week, the Government said it would scrap the rule that stops Britons from voting in the UK if they have been abroad for 15 years.
If the Government can do it for Britons abroad why not also for the EU Citizens living in the UK?
Today, we renew our #CourageCall for EU citizens to have the vote.
Just like the suffragettes 100 years ago, EU citizens are unrepresented and do not have a voice.
That is not the way to heal a broken society.
That is not the way to run global Britain.
That is not the way to 'get Brexit done'.
We continue to fight for justice for those who had their votes denied in the 2019 European election.
But the fairest way to compensate EU citizens who were denied their vote in the EU elections is to give EU citizens the vote in General Elections - there will be no more EU elections in the UK.
Over hundred years ago, the suffragette Millicent Fawcett said:
"Courage calls to courage everywhere, and its voice cannot be denied."
Today we hear the courage call of Else Kvist and EU Citizens fighting for their voice, for the right to be included in Britain, for their right to vote.
