After four months of continuous campaigning we have the first major breakthrough in our campaign for a public inquiry into #DeniedMyVote.

The Electoral Commission has published its report into the European elections and it does not pull any punches.

The Electoral Commission's report states that:

“By not taking steps to identify alternative solutions soon after the 2014 election, and then simply assuming there was no chance of European elections happening again, the UK Government missed the opportunity to legislate for improvements to the process for future elections."

The report vindicates our claim that over 1m EU citizens were denied their vote as a result of a deliberate failure to act by the UK Government.

The Electoral Commission report indicates that as many as 1.7m EU citizens were not allowed to vote, despite being registered UK electors.

EU citizens in the UK have been the victims of institutional racism.

The mass exclusion of EU citizens from the European elections was not a matter of chance. It was the outcome of the Government’s systematic failure to remedy known flaws in our democratic procedures.

Many British citizens abroad were unable to vote due to the flawed system of sending out postal ballot papers.

This made it impossible in many cases for the votes to be returned in time to be counted as the Electoral Commission report also makes clear.

Tomorrow, New Europeans' member Else Kvist, will speak about the #DeniedMyVote campaign at the #Rally4OurRights event in London.

It is vital that we can continue to demand an independent inquiry in the UK and a full investigation by the EU Institutions into how it was that over 1.7m EU citizens an Britons abroad were denied a vote.

Following the Electoral Commission's report it is quite clear that the inquiry must focus on the actions of the Government itself.

Please continue to support our campaign so that we can continue to fight to make sure this scandal is fully exposed.
