Yesterday we heard our Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab liken taking the knee to subordination, as seen in Game of Thrones. I found his comment condescending and unhelpful at a time when tensions have been heightened by the call for statues portraying slave masters to be removed. 

We then had to observe James Cleverly describe how much things have progressed since the 50s and 60s for black citizens living in the U.K He said black people are no longer spat at in the streets, yet we have recently heard of a transport worker who was spat on and later developed COVID and died at work. He said that when he was growing up, the NF would march through the streets and that is no longer the case. The recent protest March by the far right witnessed them making monkey chants, making Hail Hitler gestures and shouting that they are racist and they like it. It shows that the governments leaders are so far removed from reality and we need a place to call our own. The Black British Citizens Council (BBCC) will ensure we educate government and lend support to U.K black citizens to create equality and eradicate racism for good. These are such important times and we must not do anything to compremise our need for a place that understands the positive contributions black citizens have made in British society.
