Books Not Bills: End Student Debt Inequality

Books Not Bills: End Student Debt Inequality
The Issue
Over the years, higher education has become less accessible to students in marginalized communities due to a decrease in public funding. The University system has had to raise tuition prices. Students often end up borrowing money and paying interest on that debt, causing them to fall into financial hardship just so they can earn the same degree as a student who can afford university out of pocket. This situation is a major social justice issue. Education should be accessible based on ability, not someone's bank account.
Students accessing higher education allows them to access better jobs and opportunities, which allow them to be actively part of society. Higher paying jobs with cause more income tax paid, which will directly benefit the government. Educated workers will contribute new ideas to society, and we will grow as a country. All students deserve equal opportunity to education without the burden of debt.
We urge the Canadian government to increase funding for universities, lower tuition fees, and expand grants to make education more accessible and equitable for all students.
