New skate park on Station Park (MUGA area)

The Issue

It is abundantly clear that Howrich has it's issues with anti-social behavior and drug use, this is a result of the lack of amenities for the young people in Horwich and although we have several football pitches and a leisure center containing a pool, a gym and several courts, many of our young people still do not use these facilities and it is clear that we have a lack in diversity of our facilities in Horwich.

Recently, a large amount of young people have begun skating in Horwich and where we used to have a small skate park on Station Park, we now have one ramp which is located on an area of tarmac as wide as a footpath and curves down a slope- not a suitable area for a skate park. The old multi use gaming area (MUGA) where we used to have a football and basketball court was disassembled and used as a temporary car park for the construction of the new leisure center and has now been left with piles of rubble and debris and serves now only as an eyesore and a danger to any children playing in the area. This would be the perfect area for a new skate park as it a level area located in the middle of Station Park and after talking with our Horwich MP, Kevin McKeon and gaining his support in the council, this project could become a reality and would benefit very strongly with the support of the people.

Although there is a skate park in Adlington and Bolton town center, both on either side of Horwich, many of our young people simply can not afford the bus travel every day to these neighboring towns and would benefit massively with the construction of a well made, durable skate park right here in Horwich. Let's combat the anti-social behavior of our bored youth with a properly made, new, free to use area for the people of Horwich to enjoy. Thank you.
