CARTA ABIERTA: LLAMADO A BOICOT BOILER ROOM

Querida comunidad artística de Borikén:

La conciencia, la ética, la esperanza, el amor y los principios políticos nos llaman a ser responsables con nosotres mismes y con toda la vida en este planeta. Desde Borikén, en solidaridad con Palestina y con todas las comunidades y tierras impactadas por Boiler Room, Superstruct y KKR. Exhortamos a artistas, gestores culturales, DJs y al público a que rechacen colaborar -y participar- con Boiler Room y boicotear su evento a celebrarse en el mes de julio en nuestra tierra. El momento histórico en el cual nos encontramos nos exige posicionamientos contundentes. Ponerle fin al genocidio en Palestina y la liberación requiere que nos movamos de gestos simbólicos hacia cambios tangibles y acciones concretas como lo son el desinvertir y el boicot. Este movimiento ha surgido de manera orgánica, como una iniciativa internacional en respuesta al 'artwashing' [1] que lleva a cabo KKR para encubrir el genocidio del pueblo Palestino. 

Desde 2014 hasta 2021, el director de Boiler Room fue 'Noam Ohana' quien sirvió de forma voluntaria en la milicia de la entidad sionista durante la Segunda Intifada entre los años 2000 y 2005. [2] Boiler Room tiene conexiones profundas con la entidad sionista que van más allá de un exdirector genocida y de sus colaboraciones de auspicio con empresas como Tapestry Inc. y Authentic Brands Group. [3] [4] Empresas que en octubre de 2023 se comprometieron a brindar apoyo y donaciones a la milicia de la entidad sionista, mientras se benefician por tener los mismos gran inversionistas, corporaciones como BlackRock y Vanguard, vinculadas tanto a la deuda de bonos públicos de Puerto Rico, a Wall Street y las empresas del sector armamentista como Lockheed Martin. Tan recientemente como el pasado 15 de enero de 2025, Superstruct Entertainment compró a Boiler Room; la compañía matriz de Superstruct Entertainment es la firma de inversion global, KKR. [6] KKR está directamente implicado en el genocidio del Pueblo Palestino. Esta firma invierte en varias empresas de tecnología y publicidad sionista; al igual que en la fabricación de armas de guerra, haciéndola cómplice del genocidio en Palestina. La misma, es dueña de múltiples fabricantes de armamento aeroespacial y defensa militar [7]. KKR tiene una gran inversión en Safariland LLC, una empresa que fabrica y vende equipo militar y policial, incluyendo gas lacrimógeno, balas de goma y otros dispositivos utilizados para la represión de multitudes. Este equipo ha sido empleado en Borikén, particularmente durante el verano de 2019, cuando la policía, bajo las órdenes del nefasto exgobernador Ricardo Rosselló Nevares, utilizó estas armas para reprimir las protestas masivas que exigían su renuncia. La represión fue ampliamente denunciada, incluso por Amnistía Internacional, que condenó el uso indiscriminado de gas lacrimógeno y balas de goma contra la población civil. [8] [9]

Como si eso no fuera poco, KKR también tiene inversiones en Axel Springer [10], Guesty [11], Circor International y Advanced Navigation, compañías implicadas en la expropiación y administración de tierras Palestinas, así como el desarrollo de software y centro de análisis de datos del consumidor. [12] [13] Adicionalmente, KKR ha facilitado la destrucción de territorios ancestrales de las comunidades indígenas Wet'suwet'en con sus inversiones en el proyecto Coastal Gaslink Pipeline en Canadá. [14] [15] 

La explotación del arte ha sido históricamente una herramienta al servicio del colonialismo y otros sistemas de violencia. Frente a esto, es urgente romper con todo lo que atente contra la vida misma. Es momento de trascender, de imaginar y construir colectivamente un mundo donde el bien común sea una realidad para todes. La adquisición de Boiler Room por parte de KKR no es simplemente un acuerdo comercial: es una inversión estratégica que la firma utiliza para lavar su imagen y desviar la atención del hecho de que su capital financia sistemas de vigilancia, armas de guerra, combustibles fósiles que destruyen el planeta, y la ocupación y genocidio del pueblo Palestino. Crímenes que hoy se transmiten brutalmente en redes sociales a plena vista del mundo. 

No podemos claudicar en nuestro apoyo por la liberación de Palestina. Por todas estas razones es que afirmamos que el colaborar con Boiler Room es colaborar con el colonialismo que al final nos mata y nos deshumaniza. No haremos concesiones; rechazamos cualquier forma de compensación económica con dinero manchado por la sangre de muches. No negociaremos nuestra humanidad ni nuestro compromiso con la defensa de nuestros territorios. Disfrutar de nuestra música y del talento local jamás debe estar vinculado al exterminio de pueblos colonizados ni a la destrucción de nuestro hogar común: el planeta Tierra.

En solidaridad con la Nación Wet’suwet’en, con Palestina y con todas las personas afectadas por las inversiones de KKR, nuestro reclamo como comunidad es contundente: no aceptamos la comodificación de nuestra cultura, de la comunidad rave y el reggaeton por parte de KKR. La escena de la música, el arte y el baile underground no deben ni serán utilizadas para encubrir violencia colonial y genocida. 

La mayoría de las personas con acceso al internet y redes sociales saben que está ocurriendo un genocidio. Tenemos la responsabilidad de condenar a quienes teniendo el acceso a la información,  expresan dudas o insisten en que no es así.

Hay que actuar en consecuencia. A todas las personas relacionadas a este evento o que tienen afiliación con organizaciones que participan activamente del genocidio en Palestina, abandonen las mismas. No hay espacio seguro para los cómplices del genocidio.

Dear artistic community of Borikén,

Our conscious, ethics, hope, love, and political principles demands of us to be responsible with ourselves and all life on this planet. From Borikén in solidarity with Palestine and all communities and lands impacted by Boiler Room, Superstruct, and KKR, we urge artists, cultural workers, DJs, and the public to reject collaborating with Boiler Room and boycott their event that is to take place in the month of July on our land. The historical moment we find ourselves in demands us to take a firm stance. Ending the genocide in Palestine and achieving liberation requires us to transcend from symbolic acts to more tangible changes such as, those attained by divestment and boycotts. This movement arose organically as an international initiative in response to the artwashing[1] committed by KKR to mask their complicity in the Palestinian genocide. 

From 2014 to 2021, the director of Boiler Room was "Noam Ohana," who volunteered in the zionist entity's military during the Second Intifada from the years 2000 to 2005. [2] Boiler Room has extensive connections with the zionist entity beyond that of a genocidal ex-director and their sponsorial collaborations with companies like Tapestry Inc. and Authentic Brands Group. [3][4] Companies that in 2023 supported and donated to the zionist entity's military, while also benefiting from having the same large investors – corporations like BlackRock and Vanguard – that are linked to Puerto Rico's public bond debt, Wall Street, and are the owners of weapons manufacturing companies like Lockheed Martin. [5]

As recent as, January 15, 2025 Superstruct Entertainment acquired Boiler Room. Superstruct Entertainment's parent company is KKR, a global investment firm directly implicated in the genocide of the Palestinian people. [6] This firm invests in multiple zionist tech and marketing companies, as well as in the manufacture of aerospace and military defense weaponry. [7] KKR has a significant investment in Safariland LLC, a company that makes and sells military and police equipment, including tear gas, rubber bullets, and other devices used to repress protests. This equipment has been used in Borikén, particularly during the summer of 2019, when the police, under orders of the nefarious ex-governor Ricardo Rosselló Nevares, used these weapons to repress massive protests demanding his resignation. The repression was widely denounced, including by Amnesty International that condemned the indiscriminate use of tear gas and rubber bullets against the people. [8] [9]

As if that was not enough, KKR also invests in Axel Springer [10], Guesty [11], Circor International, and Advanced Navigation, companies implicated in the expropriation and administration of Palestinian lands, as well as the development of consumer data analytics software and construction of data centers in those same lands. [12] [13] Additionally, KKR facilitated the destruction of ancestral lands of the indigenous community of Wet'suwet'en with their investments in the Coastal Gaslink Pipeline project in Canada. [14] [15]

The exploitation of art has historically been used as a means to serve colonialism and other systems of violence. Faced with this, it is urgent we break with everything that threatens life itself. It is time to collectively evolve, imagine, and build a world where the common good is a reality for all. The acquisition of Boiler Room by KKR is not a mere business arrangement: it is a strategic investment that the firm uses to mask and clean their public image and redirect from the fact that their money finances mass surveillance systems, weapons of war, planet-killing fossil fuels, and the occupation and genocide of the Palestinian people; crimes that are brutally live-streamed to our devices and social media for the whole world to see.

We cannot abandon our support for a free Palestine. It is for all the reasons above that we affirm that collaborating with Boiler Room is akin to collaborating with colonialism, which kills and dehumanizes all of us. We cannot afford any concessions; we reject any and all financial compensation with blood money. We will neither negotiate our humanity nor our commitment to defending our lands. The enjoyment of our music and local talent must never come at the expense of the extermination of colonized peoples or the destruction of our common home: planet Earth.

In solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en Nation, Palestine, and everyone affected by KKR's investments, our message as a community is emphatic: we refuse the commodification of our culture, or the rave and reggaeton communities by KKR. The underground art, dance, and music scenes must not and will not be used to hide colonial violence and genocide.

The majority of people with access to the internet and social media know that a genocide is occurring. We have the responsibility to condemn those who have access to this information and continue to doubt or insist that it isn't true. 

We have to act accordingly. To all the people associated with this event or that have any affiliation with the organizations that actively participate in the genocide of Palestinians, abandon them. There is no safe space for the complicit.
