Dear Supporter,
Thank you for all of your support phoning, emailing and messaging Costco to get them to require their pork suppliers stop using crates for 100% of the time.
We're excited to share our new Costco web page that explains how Costco still permits its major pork producers to confine mother pigs in gestation crates for the first 6 weeks after they're impregnated —immobilizing them in a space so small they're unable to turn around, stretch their limbs, or take a step.
Costco has promised to make the humane treatment of animals a "business imperative." Confining pigs in gestation crates is inconsistent with Costco's publicly available letter to its suppliers that says pigs should have "adequate room to turn around", and that animals should have the freedom to "exhibit natural behavior". Well, isn't walking, stretching, and turning around natural behaviors?
If you'd like to take action again today, help us share our new Costco website far and wide on your social media. To make that easy, just click the links below to send a tweet or share our Facebook post.
It is time for Costco to live up to the animal welfare standards it purports to value.
