Dear Supporter,
Thank you for being part of our campaign asking Costco to eliminate the use of gestation crates for a mother pig's entire pregnancy cycle. As the second largest retailer in the world, Costco’s impact on farmed animal welfare is huge. While we all appreciate Costco's pledge to phase out the use of gestation crates by 2022, the promise falls short because its major suppliers will still confine pigs in gestation crates during the first six weeks after impregnation.
Please keep sharing our petition with friends, family, and social groups who care about the welfare of animals raised for food.
Why is this campaign so important? Gestation crates remain one of the worst forms of entrenched animal cruelty in industrialized food operations. They immobilize a pig in a space so tiny it’s roughly the same size as her body, so narrow she can’t even stretch or turn around. Getting a giant retailer like Costco to commit to banning the use of gestation crates for the first six weeks after impregnation will be a huge step forward in the fight for a more humane food system.
We need your help! Ask Costco to end the use of gestation crates for a mother pig’s entire pregnancy cycle by 2022 by sharing this petition.
Together, we can make a huge difference for the animals hidden from view on factory farms.
For the animals,
