Currently the Haliburton, Kawartha Pine Ridge District reports the total number of active cases in Northumberland as a whole. With back to school quickly approaching, the health unit needs to be more transparent with this information and provide reporting by town while protecting the identity of the infected individuals. Knowledge is power. As taxpayers, we have a right to know whether the active cases are in Port Hope, Cobourg, Brighton, Trent Hills etc. Providing this information will allow people to make more informed decisions about their daily activities. The World Health Organization has just announced that individuals should not go to a regular dentist visit if there are active cases in your area. How can we make these simple decisions without all the facts? Reporting this information will also alleviate any fear and panic in areas without cases so people can feel more comfortable going to the hair dresser or dining on a patio thereby helping our community. Durham Region breaks their numbers down by town and the taxpayers of Northumberland deserve the same type of reporting. There should be no secrecy when it comes to protecting our health and the health of our families.
