For the board of cosmetology to create a lash technician license course.

The Issue

The state of California requires an esthetician license to perform volume lash extensions services, however lash extensions is not taught in the current curriculum of the class. The board has recently passed the bill SB-803 which shortened the cosmetology program that includes chemically bleaching hair by 600 hours and also removed the practical exam which means you only have to take a written test but not be evaluated on any technique to receive a license.  They have also added a 600 hour license for styling hair in which a stylist can cut & style but not color.

I believe that state board should create a program for lash extensions only, a curriculum in which the students learns safety and sanitation, removal, prevention of chemical burns & allergic reaction, application techniques but in which you do not have to learn skin care, extractions, sugaring, Brazilians, chemical peels, etc.

some students only want to learn & offer lash extensions and nothing else in the curriculum they offer. I believe if they can create a “styling license” they can create a lash technician license. We want education that works for us. The lash industry in the past 2 years has hit tremendous growth, lashes are the new IT factor, we want to enroll in a program designed for lash extension professionals.

In addition I wanted to remind everyone that in order to pierce, tattoo or do any permanent makeup such as microblading, in which you come in contact with bodily fluids and blood borne pathogens you do NOT need any schooling but simply a 128$ license from the county. Lash extensions have a lifetime of 2-4 weeks, tattoos are forever.
