The Issue

All kinds of communities will be impacted by Bluesky's community guidelines and TOS changes. Artists, writers, fans, journalists, activists, marginalized communities sex workers and adult game creators will be unfairly punished and sidelined just so Bluesky can monetize its services, going back on its initial plan to not be another Twitter clone.  Adult-friendly spaces are disappearing at an alarming rate, creating a more corporate, sanitized version of the web. Not only has Bluesky failed to take into account the input it received from these groups, but the moderation staff are shadowbanning comments and posts that are highly critical of the upcoming changes on October 15th. To be clear, this is hardly a new phenomenon, as this has happened on other social media sites. It still isn't acceptable. These communities went to Bluesky for freedom that was promised to them when it was first made. It's time to remind Bluesky of that promise and tell them that this is unacceptable. If no one speaks out, this will spread and metastasize until every corner of the web is nothing more than hyper-sanitized corporate slop: soulless, unoriginal and censored.

I have seen this kind censorship cropping up over the years, and it has impacted members of my community. They are unable to get rent money and food all because someone else didn't like what they drew and wrote. The stigma has gone too far.

Blackouts will not solve this issue. They want the silence of taboo and adult creators. Speaking out loudly and proudly will get them to reconsider. No one should be afraid to create or to be themselves on the Internet.
