Blue zone Greenacre for a healthier future
The issue
📢 HELP TURN GREENACRE INTO A "BLUE ZONE" FOR OUR KIDS & GRANDKIDS!
To all residents, parents, grandparents, and business owners of Greenacre (2190),
We all love our community. Greenacre is a wonderful place to live, full of vibrant businesses, close families, and deep cultural and faith connections. But let’s be honest—our neighborhood is changing, and our streets are getting hotter, more crowded with cars, and harder to walk safely, especially for our seniors and children.
Right now, there is a massive divide in Sydney. Suburbs on the other side of town get beautiful, shady walking paths, cooler streets, and great parks. We deserve the exact same for our families right here.
🌟 What is a "Blue Zone" and why do we need it?
A Blue Zone is a place in the world where people live the longest, healthiest, and happiest lives—often reaching 100 years old! They don’t do this by spending hours in expensive gyms. They do it because their neighbourhood is built for healthy living.
Greenacre is the perfect place to become a certified Blue Zone because of our biggest strength: our family axis. In Greenacre, 46% of our homes are couples with children—way higher than the rest of Sydney. We look after our elders, and our kids grow up surrounded by family.
We are launching this community initiative to demand that Council upgrades Greenacre's infrastructure so our parents, children, and future grandchildren can live long, healthy lives. Even better, our neighbors in Strathfield are stepping up to push for this too, making this a powerful, connected regional movement!
📝 What we are asking Council to do:
By signing this petition, you are telling our local Bankstown Ward Councillors and the Council that we demand:
Cooler, Shady Streets: Plant more trees along our local roads to fight the blistering summer heat and chemical pollution so our kids can play safely outside.
Safe Walking Paths (A "Blue-Green Grid"): Build wide, beautifully shaded walking loops connecting our homes directly to Waterloo Road, Banksia Road shops, and Roberts Park. This means our grandparents can walk safely with mobility scooters or prams without worrying about cars.
Better, Multi-Generational Parks: Upgrade our parks so they aren't just empty grass. We want spaces with gentle fitness equipment for seniors, shaded seating for family gatherings, and safe play zones where all generations can connect.
Access to Organic, Healthier Foods & Education." Adding "organic" emphasizes high-quality, chemical-free nutrition for the long-term vitality of local children and future generations.
