Petition updateHelp Reed get a new adaptive bikePushing ahead

Here is what has happened recently with our situation:

The therapy provider has been in talks with the insurance company to revise this “policy” they’ve been using against us and other families. So far it’s just been talks and nothing has changed for anyone.

The insurance company approved Reed’s physical therapy for another 3 months. While that’s great, it just shows the inconsistency. His physical and occupational therapies are through the same company and are both done at his daycare but only occupational therapy has been denied being done at daycare because he’s able to leave the house.

We are currently paying out of pocket so that Reed can continue his occupational therapy. His therapist is reporting better use of his right hand and continued progress. Not only are we asking BCBS to cover our current therapist for financial reasons, but he has also built a relationship with her for the last year and is working well with her.

I have posted this petition to the insurance company’s Facebook page. I don’t know if anything will come of it but at least it will make them aware of his situation and the support we have for how ridiculous this invisible “policy” is.

There are too many comments to read them all, but I’ve glanced over them and a couple of things have been repeated. My husband’s HR has no control over changing this. The plan is fully funded, not self funded, which means the company does not have negotiating power with the terms of the plan. And to date BCBS has paid $0 towards our medical expenses this year. We are only asking that we get credit for the money we are already spending. That these therapies count towards our deductible as they should.

Thank you everyone for your support!
