BLOCK THE BOMBS going to Israel, Rep. Stansbury!
The Issue
"The killing of Palestinian families and children, journalists, and aid workers must stop. ... And, the United States government must stop the flow of weapons being used to enable these atrocities. We have a fundamental moral responsibility to act, and to act now." So says First Congressional District (NM) Rep. Melanie Stansbury on Instagram. But she refuses to act on legislation that would stop the flow of weapons.
Rep. Stansbury will not co-sponsor the Block the Bombs Act, H.R. 3565, a bill to block transfer of specific offensive weapons to Israel unless Congress specifically authorizes it and Israel provides written assurance that it will not violate international human rights laws.
She would not be alone: 33 Representatives are already standing strong as co-sponsors. We will have her back: Less than a third of Americans and only 8% of Democrats approve of Israel’s military actions.
One expert estimates that as of April 2025, Israel had dropped the equivalent of six Hiroshima bombs on Gaza, which is less than three-quarters the size of Albuquerque. Other estimates indicate that by April of last year, Israel had dropped more tonnage than in the WW II bombings of Dresden, Hamburg, and London combined.
As a Jewish American, I refuse to stand by while Israel massacres innocent people and claims to be doing it in my name and my country -- the United States -- supports and enables the slaughter. I will not be slient and allow anyone to think that supporting Israel equals supporting Jews. I call on everyone in Melanie Stansbury's district to say with me, "Never Again" means "NOT TO ANYONE!"
