We are closing the petition to protect the Chateau Laurier from a neo-modernist style addition. We did not achieve our goal officially blocking this construction. However, while Ottawa City Council did not vote in our favour, to date (May 2025) no addition has yet been added. We will keep an eye on this. Perhaps the owners have reconsidered following the broad public outrage.

Our petition gathered over 14,000 signatures and you should all be congratulated for being part of this heritage protection effort. 

Ottawa City Council did recommend that the federal government consider stronger protection rules and legislation for heritage buildings. That project we need to follow up on also.
