THIS WAS THE ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION, in the Eastern States on the 15/3/26 10.10pm AESDST.. Batteries 2%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 56% Brown Coal 16%, Gas 4%, Hydro 9% Diesel 0% Solar 0%, Wind 15% 

That is coal was providing 72% of electricity production, while Renewables solar and wind was only providing 15%.

WITHOUT COAL AUSTRALIA WOULD BE BLACKED OUT.

Yet by 2030, Federal Energy Minister Bowen, wants that Renewables 15% to go to 82%. Which is impossible. Because Solar is fueled by Sunshine and there is a 17 hour Sunshine drought every night. And wind turbines are fueled, by fluctuating winds, which only averages out to 8 hours of production a day and also has wind droughts of hours, days and sometime weeks.

 At the same time the coal fired power stations, at the time above were producing 72% of our electricity are to be closed down.

THESE DELUSIONS CAN ONLY RESULT IN BLACKOUTS AND CHAOS. PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION

Which is to stop the closure of all the Australian Coal Fired Power Stations and keep them running is of the utmost importance. And no consideration of them being closed be considered until assured supplies of base load electricity 24/7 is available from coal, gas or uranium powered generators.

AS WELL AS PHYSICAL BLACKOUTS, ECONOMIC BLACKOUTS CAN BE EQUALLY HARMFUL. Economic blackouts, are created when electricity becomes unaffordable for domestic, retail and manufacturing consumers, because it is too expensive to use.

This will happen because the claim Wind, Solar and Batteries is the cheapest way to produce electricity is very wrong, as shown by the research below.

The results are from, The Heartland Institute USA – Center on Climate and Environmental Policy, using Texas USA records, as to what electrical generating systems are most. Affordable.  They have levelized Full System Costs of Electricity, using the relatively wind-friendly and solar-friendly geography of Texas as a baseline, is as follows, in US dollars per megawatt-hour (plus conversion to A$).

Natural Gas $40MWh A$57MWh 

Coal $90MWh A$128MWh

Biomass (Burning wood chips) $117MWh A$167MWh

Nuclear $122MWh A$174MWh

Wind $291MWh A$415MWh (Three times dearer than coal).

Solar $413MWh A$587MWh. (Four and a half times dearer than coal)

AVOIDING ECONOMIC BLACKOUTS, ANOTHER REASON TO SIGN THE PETITION

Australia’s Electricity Grid, is teetering on the edge of disaster. It risks having a Black Event, which happens when the Grid has an over 50% reliance on Unreliable Renewables and a several hour wind drought, occurs at night, when solar is producing ‘NOTHING’. And batteries quickly become flat. It results in the system collapsing and the whole East Coast of Australia, being Blacked Out. The result would be.

Day One. Streetlights and traffic signals are commonly grid-dependent and will cease operating at the commencement of the blackout. City streets will quickly become gridlocked, impairing residents’ ability to evacuate by car.

Telephone and internet networks’ batteries and emergency generators will stop working within 24 hours, making it impossible to request assistance from police, fire, and ambulance services. In the absence of street lighting and law enforcement, crime will skyrocket. Only well-trained, armed citizens will enjoy any personal safety.

Tap water won’t be available as city water reticulation relies on pumps. Drinking water will only be available as bottled water on hand as shops won’t be open. No piped water means no toilet flushing, and hygiene issues will emerge within 24 hours.

Day Two, No rubbish collection will see waste accumulating on the streets. The insect and rodent populations will flourish and contribute to health issues. Refrigerated food will be spoiled by day two and food supplies will be limited to tinned or dried food on hand.

Health services can be expected to collapse on day two and hospitals will descend into chaos. Those reliant on prescription drugs will have only their on-hand stocks.

Day Three. City residents will be desperate for water and urgently in need of food. Those who have not become victims of crime will be evacuating outwards from the city centre on foot, hoping to find water and food in the suburbs.

Things won’t be much better in the suburbs, except that residents with yards will at least be able to bury their waste and the roads won’t be as gridlocked. Suburban residents will also be without water, food, and communications, and by the end of day three, with desperate city residents flooding their neighborhoods, they’ll be taking to their cars and fleeing into the rural areas.

This scenario is quite possible to happen if the Federal Government continues on its Transition to Unreliable Renewables.

Imagine then if in one or more of the State's of Australia, the electricity Grid was to suddenly be blacked out for ten hours or more? As recently happened 28/4/25 to all of mainland Portugal, peninsula Spain, Andorra and parts of southwest France. At 12.30pm Spain was running on 73% Unreliables (mainly sunshine), suddenly there was a 5 second drop in voltage, which tripped an automatic switch, which led to a cascade of automatic switches tripping off. 12.33pm the blackout was total and remained that way for up to ten hours before power could be restored. 

Fortunately nuclear power from France was available to kickstart the Grids in mainland Portugal, peninsula Spain and Andorra. Otherwise the blackouts could have been for much, much longer.

Then  as stressed in our heading, what if it happened in any Australian State be it Victoria? Or Victoria and South Australia together, were blacked out for ten hours or more? It would be devastating, for every individual, home, business, just everyone involved. Because today everything is so electrified and computerized that it will stop completely. And if all the coal fired power stations have been shut down, there will no reliable, constant power to kickstart the Unreliables.

It is extremely important that everybody is made aware that in a modern society a Blackout is equivalent to a heart attack to a person? 

And as in a heart attack, the damage can be permanent or take some time to recover. I.e. rotten food has to be replaced at a huge cost, once might be coped with, two, three or more in a row will be a financial disaster. All sorts of computers have to be reset. All financial transactions and phone services may be cut. Accidents have long term consequences. Crimes can occur when security goes down and police are overwhelmed. 

Blackouts will  affect everything imaginable, financial systems will suddenly close down, Banks, Shopping Centers, Cafe's, manufacturers, just everything will be unable to trade or operate. Particularly with a lack of refrigeration leading to widespread food spoilage in both Supermarkets, cafes and homes, leading to food shortages. High rise buildings, apartments (Lifts will be stranded) and homes will become uninhabitable. Such simple items such as garage doors will not open, as will every automatic door. Schools will need to close, traffic chaos will ensure as traffic lights will shut down, boom gates will stay down, street and all lighting will be out, TV, telecommunications and the NBN will shut down, the supply of water will be interrupted and sewerage services will backup. Hospitals, nursing homes and people relying on heating, cooling or life maintaining devices may die.

To avoid blackouts the Grid (which consists of flows of pulsating, invisible, electrons, which can vanish in a second) must have a guaranteed, constant supply of base load electricity, 24/7. 

Unreliables, Solar panels and Wind Turbines, have the insurmountable, practical problem of a shortage of weather fuel, (no Sunshine mines to fuel Solar Panels 24/7 or Wind mines to fuel Wind Turbines 24/7) they will stop generating for 16 hours every night, every rainy day and for wind droughts, which can last for hours, days, even weeks. And this will create the potential for extremely serious blackouts.

These are two actual examples of what can happen. 

Example 1. In 2024 in Broken Hill, there had been $650m invested in Renewable Factories in a 25km radius of the City. Which consisted of. A. The 200MW Silverton Wind Farm. B. The 53MW Broken Hill Solar Farm and. C. The 50MW Big Battery. All of which was meant to make Broken Hill, a self contained Renewable Energy Island. In the event that the HV Transmission line connecting it to the Grid was cut.

However late on Thursday the 17th of October 2024, a severe storm blew through the Broken Hill area, and broke the main transmission line. The Solar Farm was off line as was the Wind Farm and the Battery was flat. Broken Hill has two backup Diesel generators, but one was out of service with some mechanical problems and when the other was started it overheated and shut down, because the demand was to great.

The result is that some 12,000 residents of Broken Hill and the surrounding towns of Tibooburra, Wilcannia, Menindee and White Cliffs. Were without a consistent power supply for five days, with rolling blackouts extending up to ten days or more.

Example 2. On Monday the 28th April 2025 at 12.33pm, the Spanish Grid was running on 71% Solar and Wind. There was a sudden interruption to supply and in 5 seconds the Grid began to shut down, in 3 minutes all of mainland Portugal, peninsula Spain, Andorra and parts of southwest France were blacked out and remained blacked out for up to 10 hours.

Which is why the target to have 82% Renewables to power our Grid in the future is so unwise, it is inevitable that the Grid will crash and disastrous blackouts will happen,

This includes Eraring, recently extended to 2027, Yallourn recently extended to 2032, Bayswater in 2033, with Loyang A in 2045 and all other coal fired power stations. 

And no consideration of them being closed be considered until assured supplies of base load electricity 24/7 is available from coal, gas or uranium powered generators. Even if this requires the coal fired generators be compulsory acquired by the relevant Government, in the National interest and to maintain the supply of base load electricity 24/7 that is essential to STOP the Grid from collapsing.

The importance of the contribution of the coal fired generators can be clearly seen by looking at recent examples below from the Australian Energy Market Operator's electricity generation dashboard.

Eastern States 14th  February 2025 9.10pm AEDST. Batteries 1%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 50% Brown Coal 12%, Gas 5%, Hydro 11% Diesel 0% Solar 0%, Wind 21%.  9.10pm a time when Solar has entered a period of 16 hours, when it produces no electricity at all. Wind is all over the place averaging 21%, but ranging from only 7% in Qld, up to 85% in SA. 

To underline the importance of our coal fired generators 14/02/25, 9.10pm AEDST. In NSW, coal is producing 75% solar 0% wind 8%, Qld, coal 75%, solar 0% wind 7% Vic, Brown coal 56%, solar 0% wind 39%. SA, batteries 11%, gas 4%, solar 0% Wind 85% and Tas, 54% hydro, wind 46%.

WITHOUT COAL AUSTRALIA WOULD BE BLACKED OUT. AND THE RISK OF WIDESPREAD STARVATION WOULD BE VERY POSSIBLE 

 Please sign this petition as matter of urgency as our supply of reliable, base load electricity 24/7, is becoming less secure with each day that passes.

While Nuclear Generated Electricity is coming, it is at least fifteen to twenty years before it will start generating. So we desperately need the Coal Fired Power to keep running and fill the Gap.

SUPPORTING INFORMATION:

The really frightening part is our Energy Ministers are energy illiterate, (that is they have never been educated in how electricity systems work). Even worse they believe that you can supply a modern society that requires a low cost, completely reliable and stable supply of base load electricity for every second, of every minute of every 24 hours of every 365 days of the year.

1. With Stone Age weather fuel starved Solar Panels that at very best can only produce six hours of electricity a day, and sometimes nothing. And become a serious fire hazard to Rural areas in Summer.

2. With Medieval weather fueled Wind Turbines, that because of wind droughts or gales, can only provide an intermittent supply of electricity for an average of eight hours a day. Wind turbines, being on 280m towers are an extremely serious fire hazard to Rural areas in Summer.

3. With Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) which do not generate any electricity, only store any surplus. And there is a substantial loss of electricity in both the in and out of the storage process and (in my opinion) the only purpose of a BESS is to make a profit for the owner and push up the price of electricity to the consumer. Because BESS's can be overcharged and overheat, they are prone to breaking out in fire and could create an extreme fire hazard in all situations, particularly Rural areas far away from Fire fighting facilities.

IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW MUCH (MISNAMED) RENEWABLE ENERGY CAPACITY YOU HAVE IN THE GRID. As shown by the actual examples below, there are many times when Renewables have no Sun or Wind they are a complete failure.

FOUR TIMES IN 36 DAYS SOLAR WIND AND BATTERIES WERE PRODUCING LESS THAN 5% OF ELECTRICITY SUPPLIES.

ONCE BEGINNING ON THE 4th JUNE 2024, IT WAS LESS THAN 6% FOR FOURTEEN HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. On the 27th April 2024 5.55pm, solar, wind and batteries were producing only 5% of the total Eastern States plus SA electricity supply. (Coal was producing 64%).

Australian Energy Market Operator’s (AEMO) Data Dashboard on the Eastern States on the 27th April 2024 at 5.55pm EST. Electricity production was made up by: Batteries 2%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 49% Brown Coal 15%, Gas 15%, Hydro 15% Diesel 1% Solar 0%, Wind 3%.

2. On the 12th of May 2024 6.40pm, solar, wind and batteries was producing only 7% of the total Eastern States plus SA electricity supply. (Coal was producing 68%).

Eastern States 12th May 2024 6.20pm EST. Batteries 2%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 50% Brown Coal 18%, Gas 11%, Hydro 14% Diesel 0% Solar 0%, Wind 5%.

3. It is even worse! On the 23rd of May 2024 5.10pm, solar, wind and batteries were producing only 3% of the total Eastern States plus SA electricity supply. (Coal was producing 64%).

Eastern States 23rd May 2024 5.10pm EST. Batteries 0%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 49% Brown Coal 15%, Gas 20%, Hydro 12% Diesel 1% Solar 1%, Wind 2%.

4. DISASTER GUARANTEED From 4/6/24 4.50pm uninterrupted to 7.00am 5/6/24 (14 hrs) Solar – Wind and Batteries NEVER PRODUCED MORE THAN 6% OF NATIONAL GRID PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS AND WAS EVEN DOWN TO 1%.

Eastern States 4th June 2024 4.50pm EST. Batteries 0%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 46% Brown Coal 14%, Gas 21%, Hydro 15% Diesel 1% Solar 0%, Wind 1%. Batteries, Solar and Wind, only producing 1% of the input to the Grid.

14 hours later. Eastern States 5th June 2024 6.50am EST. Batteries 1%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 51% Brown Coal 17%, Gas 13%, Hydro 12% Diesel 1% Solar 0%, Wind 5%. Batteries, Solar and Wind, only producing 6% of the input to the Grid.

At 11pm on the 4/6 by State. Electricity was produced by: NSW 88% Black Coal, QLD 91% Black Coal, VIC 81% Brown Coal, SA 92% Gas, TAS 95% Hydro.

The spot price in SA at 6.20pm, peaked at $3,936 per MWh.

CITIZENS WILL DIE BECAUSE THEY CANNOT AFFORD FOOD OR HEATING.

COUPLED WITH THE HARM CAUSED BY RENEWABLES AS MILLIONS OF HECTARES OF AGRICULTURAL LAND IS BEING PERMANENTLY POLLUTED, BECOMING A NON-PRODUCTIVE WASTE LAND.

AND OUR UNIQUE AND VITALLY IMPORTANT BIRD AND BAT LIFE BEING SLAUGHTERED BY WIND FACTORIES CREATING UN-RESEARCHED AND UNINTENDED HAVOC ON REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL ECOLOGY.

ALL OF YOU HAVE THE NUMBER ONE RESPONSIBILITY TO GUARANTEE TO PROVIDE to all citizens, businesses, homes, public utilities hospitals, nursing homes, schools, etc., in every State in Australia, A CONSTANT, RELIABLE SUPPLY OF BASE LOAD ELECTRICITY, 24/HRS/DAY, 7 DAYS/WEEK.

To achieve this we demand:

1. WE DEMANDTHAT THE CLOSURE OF ALL COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS BE RECONSIDERED. But if they are closed , then (beginning with Liddell which  closed in April 2023, Eraring  in 2025, Yallourn in (2032 now 2028), Bayswater in 2033, with Loyang A in 2045)..AND THAT NONE OF THESE COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS BE DEMOLISHED AFTER IT IS CLOSED, BUT BE MOTHBALLED, SO IT CAN BE RESTARTED IN THE EVENT, THAT A SHORTAGE OF ELECTRICAL GENERATION REQUIRES IT TO BE RESTARTED. Even if this requires the coal fired generators be compulsory acquired by the relevant Government, in the National interest.

2. You also all have a responsibility to provide power at a low cost, for every second, of every minute, of every hour, 24 hours of every day of the week (24/7). The present mixing of Batteries, Biomass, Black Coal, Brown Coal, Gas, Hydro, Liquid Fuel, Solar and Wind. All bidding in 5 minute blocks, has turned the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) into a Casino with consumers being treated as gamblers, with all the uncertainty that involves.

SUPPLY OF LOW COST ELECTRICITY IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. BECAUSE IF A HOUSE OR BUSINESS IS BLACKED OUT BECAUSE THEY CAN’T PAY THE BILL. IT IS JUST AS SERIOUS AS A PHYSICAL BLACKOUT CAUSED BY A SHORTAGE OF ELECTRICITY.

IN ORDER THAT GENERATORS ARE ABLE TO INVEST IN CONFIDENCE. WE BELIEVE THE ONLY GENERATORS THAT SHOULD BE ABLE BID TO SUPPLY ELECTRICITY TO AEMO, ARE THOSE ABLE TO SUPPLY ELECTRICITY FOR FOUR CONTINUOUS HOURS OF THE DAY. (GENERATORS UNABLE TO SUPPLY ELECTRICITY FOR FOUR CONTINUOUS HOURS OF THE DAY ARE TOO INEFFICIENT TO BE WORTH CONSIDERATION).

Further electricity should be supplied to consumers with the least damage to the environment, agricultural productivity, fire safety, and importantly the serenity and peaceful lifestyle of the countryside and country towns. As well offshore oceans, sea beds, sea routes, whale migration lanes and fishing grounds should not be permanently contaminated by concrete based wind turbines, undersea cables, associated electrical equipment, ships, barges, drilling rigs, and the vast amount of noxious chemicals used in their installation.

3. We believe the current placement of solar and wind factories, lithium battery complexes and 28,000 kilometers of high voltage transmission lines both onshore and offshore across Australia. TO BE THE GREATEST CASE OF ENVIRONMENTAL VANDALISM IN AUSTRALIAN HISTORY

The placement of Renewable Energy Factories (REFs) is spreading a REFs Blight disease across Rural Australia with devastating consequences.

The consequences are: A. Permanently removing, millions of hectares of agricultural land from production. B. Hugely increasing the risk of uncontrollable wildfires, which will threaten the safety of all living across the Country, including villages,towns and rural cities. C. Slaughtering our unique wildlife in numbers leading to their extinction. D. Permanently polluting land, along with runoff into streams and rivers and underground streams. E. Blighting the renowned scenic beauty and peacefulness of the landscape, along with despoiling tourism attractions”. F. Devaluing land values and country lifestyles. G. Raising electricity prices sky high to consumers. H. Greatly increasing the risk of blackout.

To every person in Australia, it doesn't matter if you work in the private or public sector or are a Labor, Liberal, Greens, Teal, or any other political party supporter. You will be affected as blackouts are likely to affect every City, suburb. country town and Regional area. The affect will be financial as well as physical seen by the 20% to 30% increase in electricity prices for public and private  households, small business, hospitals, schools, aged care homes, (just everybody) across Australia beginning July 1 2023.

WITH THE MOVE TO RELY ON THE STONE AGE TECHNOLOGY OF SOLAR PANELS in all forms that has a daily SHORTAGE OF FUEL, (in that the Sun only shines in Winter for a strong six hours (10am to 4pm) and weaker three hours (8.30am to 10am and 4pm to 5.30pm) for a total of nine hours a day and some days very little or none at all) leaving a black hole of fifteen hours each night with no or very little electricity being produced.

THIS MEANS SOLAR PANELS CAN NEVER PROVIDE BASE LOAD POWER 24/7. AND INTRODUCING INTERMITTENT ELECTRICITY GENERATED BY SOLAR PANELS INTO THE GRID IS IRRESPONSIBLE! MAKING THE GRID UNSTABLE AND PLACING THE SECURITY OF THE GRID IN JEOPARDY.

Who would buy a car that could not be driven between Sunset and Sunrise because it had no fuel? Or could not be driven if it was cloudy or raining? Or even worse driving down a highway, and suddenly losing power, because a cloud had come overhead? So isn't it ridiculous to spend all this money (and even worse subsidise them) on these grossly inefficient and unreliable Stone Age Solar Factories, which permanently pollute the land they are placed on.

These Solar Factories rob the surrounding towns  and Australia of the economic, agricultural produce and employment for the next 100 years or more. The companies and/or owners of the land proposing these Solar Factories should produce an analysis of how it is going to provide electricity for the so many ,000's of homes 24/7, when the Solar Factory has only fuel available for a maximum of nine hours a day. It would appear that the ,000's of home owners are being short changed, having to buy the other fifteen hours of electricity they require from another generator at a much higher price?

5. WIND TURBINES RELY ON MEDIEVAL TECHNOLOGY WHICH HAS THE WIND FOR FUEL (and because they can only produce electricity, when the wind speed is between 12kms/hr and 90kms/hr) they are reported to produce electricity on average for only 30% of their rated capacity or on average for eight hours per day, Again, leaving random periods of hours, WITHOUT ANY ELECTRICITY BEING PRODUCED, (occasionally in some calm periods, wind turbines produce no electricity for days at a time.

With the above concerns, that the unreliable ' stone age' solar panels and 'medieval' wind turbines will prove to be unable to fill the gap created by the closure of coal fired power stations. (From the AEMO dashboard on the 22/10/23 9.30pm EDST, of the Eastern States electricity supply. Batteries was producing 0%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 47%, Brown Coal 14% Gas 5%,  Hydro 10%, Diesel 0%  and the unreliables Solar 0% and Wind 23% a total of only 13%. If the night was calm it could be as low as 4%.

AGAIN, WE THE SIGNATORIES REMIND ALL FEDERAL AND STATE ENERGY MINISTERS, PLUS ALL OUR FEDERAL AND STATE MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT. THAT WE ARE HOLDING YOU RESPONSIBLE TO ENSURE. THAT YOU MUST DO EVERYTHING IN YOUR POWER TO SEE THAT A CONSTANT , RELIABLE SUPPLY, OF LOW COST BASE LOAD ELECTRICITY IS AVAILABLE FOR EVERY SECOND, OF EVERY HOUR, OF THE 24 HOURS OF EACH DAY, FOR THE SEVEN DAYS OF EACH WEEK.

This responsibility includes, THAT THE CLOSURE OF ALL COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS BE RECONSIDERED. But if they are closed , then (beginning with Liddell which  closed in April 2023, Eraring  in (now) 2027, Yallourn in (now) 2032, Bayswater in 2033, with Loyang A in 2045)..AND THAT NONE OF THESE COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS BE DEMOLISHED AFTER IT IS CLOSED, BUT BE MOTHBALLED, SO IT CAN BE RESTARTED IN THE EVENT, THAT A SHORTAGE OF ELECTRICAL GENERATION REQUIRES IT TO BE RESTARTED. Even if this requires the coal fired generators be compulsory acquired by the relevant Government, in the National interest.
