The Net Zero Economy Authority Bill, (NZEA) is to be a Federal Government Authority with: The object of this Act is to: 11
(a) promote orderly and positive economic transformation as the 12 world decarbonises; and 13
(b) facilitate the achievement of Australia’s greenhouse gas 14 emissions reduction targets; and 15
(c) ensure Australia’s regions and workers are supported in 16 relation to, and benefit from,
My simple reading of the Bill. Is the NZEA will order as it requires, the closure of coal and gas fired generators in order that Australia’s Net Zero targets are met
To me this is emphasised on Page 19 Section 1. 9 Trigger notice (Referring to the CEO of NZEA).
(1) The CEO may, by notifiable instrument, specify a kind of notice for the purposes of paragraph (a) of the definition of trigger notice in section 5. The CEO must be satisfied that the kind of notice relates to the closure of the whole, or a part, of a coal-fired power station or a gas-fired power station.
(2) The CEO may, by notifiable instrument, specify a particular notice for the purposes of paragraph (b) of the definition of trigger notice in section 5. The CEO must be satisfied that the particular notice relates to the closure of the whole, or a part, of a coal-fired power station or a gas-fired power station.
My reading of this is that the Net Zero Economy Authority (NZEA) is going to have control of all coal and gas fired power stations, over riding their owners. And the NZEA can if they feel that goal of Net Zero emission reductions is not being reached. The NZEA can issue ‘Trigger Notices’ ordering the closure of coal and/or gas fired power stations, over riding the intentions of owners and State Governments, in order to meet emissions reductions.
To me this is madness, handing over control of the supply of Australia’s base load 24/7 electricity to bureaucrats, with no electrical, Grid management, or engineering experience. Their only goal is to meet Net Zero emission targets, guaranteeing a reliable 24/7 supply of base load power is of no interest at all. Blackouts and load shedding will become inevitable.
PLEASE BRING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF YOUR LOCAL HOUSE OF REPS AND SENATE MEMBER.
It again underlines how important (beginning with Liddell which closed in April 2023, Eraring in 2025, Yallourn in (2032 now 2028), Bayswater in 2033, with Loyang A in 2045). AND THAT NONE OF THESE COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS BE DEMOLISHED AFTER IT IS CLOSED, BUT BE MOTHBALLED, SO IT CAN BE RESTARTED IN THE EVENT, THAT A SHORTAGE OF ELECTRICAL GENERATION REQUIRES IT TO BE RESTARTED. Even if this requires the coal fired generators be compulsory acquired by the relevant Government, in the National interest.
May I strongly urge all business owners, large and small. CEO’s Managers, those in charge of aged care homes, and other public institutions, everyone in a position of management. Homeowners, etc. Reliable, low cost power is essential. Blackouts are a diabolically, serious issue. Talk with your management, boards, staff about how it will affect your business.
Any business who believes that their business is totally renewable energy powered is deluding themselves and doesn’t realise how wrong they are. It is more likely to be anywhere between 60% to 80% fossil fuels and only 20% to 30% unreliables, with the damage unreliables are doing to Rural Australia can only be described as reprehensible.

Particularly at 7pm and 7am (Or a time that suits you?) watch (and record) the mix of coal, gas hydro, batteries, solar and wind generation and the prices per MWh for each State on the AEMO dashboard.
Example: Eastern States 12th May 2024 6.20pm EST. Batteries 2%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 50% Brown Coal 18%, Gas 11%, Hydro 14% Diesel 0% Solar 0%, Wind 5%. A peak time and solar and wind only contributing 5%. What a disaster!!!!!
NO MATTER OF HOW MUCH RENEWABLE CAPACITY THERE IS INSTALLED IF IT CAN’T PRODUCE 24/7 OR ON DEMAND, IT IS USELESS.

WE MUST KEEP THOSE COAL FIRED GENERATORS GOING, TO KEEP OUR SOCIETY FROM HAVING POWER RATIONING AND EXHORBITANT ENERGY PRICES.
