The Federal Liberal/National Coalition is raising the possibility of introducing small modular nuclear reactors into our energy systems to fill the gap caused by the phasing out of coal fired power stations and the inevitable failure of the transition to solar and wind renewables. To provide the vital low cost, base load power 24/7, we desperately need every minute of every day.
However, as the Federal ALP/Greens Government has only today (10/8) abandoned a prospective site to store low level waste from nuclear medicine, because it was opposed by a percentage of the local indigenous people. The waste will remain stored in 100 low security sites around Australia, (that is no problem, is it?) while the Government waffles on. With this attitude to storing low level waste, it would appear to be impossible for the ALP/Greens to agree to a lifting of a moratorium on the building of any type of nuclear reactor in Australia. LEAVING NUCLEAR DEAD IN THE WATER.
With this situation it becomes even more imperative that the first aim of our petition to be achieved. Namely ‘That the closure of all coal fired power stations be reconsidered. But if they are closed, then (beginning with Liddell which was closed in April 2023, Eraring in 2025, Yallourn in 2028, Bayswater in 2033, with Loyang A in 2045). That they not be demolished, but be mothballed, in order that they can be reopened (when the ruinables fail as they surely will).

Particularly at 7pm and 7am (Or a time that suits you?) watch (and record) the mix of coal, gas hydro, batteries, solar and wind generation and the prices per MWh for each State on the AEMO dashboard.
