The right to food must be enshrined in law. We urge Birmingham City Council to support us.

The Issue

The Food Justice Network (FJN) in Birmingham has been actively supporting thousands of residents across the city since the first lockdown in March 2020. We are a strong coalition of 200+ community groups working together to ensure food and essential household/dignity/baby items are available to everyone who needs it. Birmingham City Council have supplied tonnes of food to the FJN for distribution in local areas.

But we know the help we provide is not a permanent solution. No one should be without food in the 5th richest country in the world. We ALL have the right to food and we need the government to change the law so people do not go hungry any longer.

The FJN is urging Birmingham City Council to officially support the campaign to make the right to food part of the government's National Food Strategy - the first independent review of England's entire food system for 75 years. The right to food MUST be enshrined in law. Birmingham is a brilliant city and we must support all our residents and become a 'Right To Food' city.
