Petition updateTo create a public park in the centre of BirminghamSmithfield - a Vast Open Public Space for Birmingham?

With the Wholesale Markets site in Digbeth set to be demolished soon, the latest news from the council is that there will be a pause while potential investors are found. In the meantime, it appears planners are looking for a temporary open space solution for this vast empty site right next to the Bullring. The Birmingham Mail has set up a survey with various options including creating a festival space, open-air cinema, pop-up markets, sports pitches in addition to, well.... just having grass (i.e. a large park). While CityPark4Brum of course favours the large park option, it is probably not lost on supporters of this petition that a well designed and landscaped park can have essentially all of the options put forward in the Birmingham Mail survey. And perhaps what appears to be a temporary solution for this site at the moment could become a permanent one in the end?
Anyway, please continue to spread the word to potential new supporters of this petition and thank you again for your support. It is important to keep the momentum going by spreading the word on this campaign to create a transformative piece of open and green space in heart of Birmingham. The total number of signatories is now over 2700 and the petition is still live.
