Firstly, thanks to everyone who has took the time to sign since the last update. We are now just over 4500 signatures but unfortunately this has slowed down significantly despite the media coverage.
It is becoming more and more obvious on a daily basis that this building does not feature in the long term plans. At the end of the day the airport is a business that has shareholders to answer to and therefore protecting the heritage is not a priority.
There have been lots of "conspiracy therories" circulating about the community, maybe the truth will never be known.
It does however appear that the flood from the top (disused) floor boiler has caused maximum damage and the air in the building is now too dangerous to breathe without proper masks due to the damp etc.
I have personally applied to Historic England (formerly English Heritage) for listed status of the building. If this was to be acheived it would be an important step in protecting it. It is quite a simple process and urge everyone to do it, (especially those with a few grand to spare to use the fast track service!!!) A link is attached. If anyone is interested in doing this please contact me for my advice after my application. There is no guarantee it will become listed without major support. Even then the airport may find a way to convince them to reject it.
Can I please ask everyone to encourage others to join us, please share links to petition and ask friends family colleagues to sign, we need to get to at least 5000 signatures!!
Thanks for your love of the building :)
