Cancel Bayside Council "Residents Parking permits trial" or change it's implementation...
The issue
Note, You could be next if it hasn't happened in your area or council yet, so please make sure you sign the petition so they can't impose it on you!
The Bayside council has decided to trial a new "Parking permits" schema designed to help residents but it is going exactly the other way, this petition is to propose a new way to implement it so residents benefit instead of being the target of extra money paid for no service to the council.
The problems are:
1) They make residents pay extra (On the top of the very high council rates) for the privilege to park in front of their own homes! Anyone else can park there for free! And if a parking permit is purchased 6 months into the year, the council still charges for the full year, another rip off!
2) The time limit of 3 hours means that commuters heading for the city take the risk and the costs of a possible yearly fine far outweigh the cost of parking elsewhere!
3) The parking inspectors hardly enforce the rule and also manage to hassle the residents that are in the process of getting their expensive new parking permits, not serving their community, absolutely pathetic!
The solutions:
a) Simply cancel the whole trial and go back to the white board and apply some KISS principle!
b) Proposed changes:
1) Residents get free "3 generic parking permits and one visitor" stickers with the rates invoice, no admin process involved, no costs. Otherwise provide a simple "Order your free resident parking permits" page on the Bayside council website. Never make residents pay extra for something that should be free to them to start with! And stop forcing residents to show proof and force them to come to the Bayside council offices, 2019, eMails, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp, Mobile app, web site page, etc...You don't need to force people to come in person to your office, they can send you the info through electronic means, welcome to the 21st century!
2) Lower the time limit to 90 minutes so it ensures commuters looking for free parking think twice before risking it!
3) Make sure the parking inspectors do their jobs properly and put parking tickets on cars that shouldn't be there longer than the time limits! And make sure they never put a fine on resident's vehicles, keep a database of residents vehicles might be an idea, or look them up on the RMS site might be even better, it is all online, ask the Chinese government to help if you don't know how, LOL!
