Homelessness persists as a major problem facing Santa Cruz County. 1,964 people experience homelessness on any given day in Santa Cruz County, and 84% of those people became homeless while living in Santa Cruz County. A substantial number of these people experience mental health challenges.

A bipartisan coalition of members from the California State Senate have introduced the “No Place Like Home” initiative, which aims to address the problem of homelessness at its root, the shortage of available housing. The “No Place like Home” initiative will give local communities the resources they need to build housing for unhoused people with mental health challenges.
