Let me start off by saying I've called EVERYONE. Health department, codes, building inspector and everyone told me to call the state. I called the state spoke with several people and returned with the same answer. "The Landlord Tenant laws do NOT apply to you because Bedford County needs a population of 70,000".... I've been in and out of doctors offices for months now. I've been on many different meds to get rid of this cough thats still here. I've been on abuterol treatments, Symbicort, cough syrup and cough pills. Im now up to 4 breathing treatments a day as well as two treatments of my inhaler a day. I'm sleeping with my window open for fresh air and I notified my Landlord. His response? "Its not that bad." Regardless of TWO medical doctors saying we NEED to move. My first response was to send a certified letter giving him X amount of days before withholding rent till something is done. Come to find out, I can't. I cannot do anything because it can backfire and he can still come after me for withholding. He doesn't have to fix it either according to the state. He can rent this place out as soon as we leave in the same condition it is in now. Not to mention he doesn't want to let us go. This HAS to change. My ENTIRE family is suffering at this point as well. Skin rashes, changes in appetite, fatigue, muscle cramps, diarrhea. It's a mess. And there's NOTHING we can do. I've dealt with a LOT from this Landlord and haven't made a peep, but my family's health? I will stand up for that! This doesn't just effect one family or two families. This can effect ANYONE. Even homeowners who may have to rent a house due to a house fire or something that causes them to leave their home. 100 people or 100,000 people in a community shouldn't mean the laws change or that one is protected while the other isn't! Let's get this changed for ALL of the families in Tennessee!!!
