Your signature on the petition to help save Central Park East 1 Elementary School has led to a successful resolution:
- Principal Monika Garg has stepped down to take a position elsewhere in the NYCDOE
- Dolores Esposito has been assigned as Acting Superintendent and will appoint a new interim acting principal to later supervise a new C30 principal selection process.
- Teacher Marilyn Martinez has been fully exonerated after Principal Garg's spurious charges.
- Teacher Catlin Preston has been fully exonerated after Principal Garg's spurious charges after more than a year in the rubber room.
While Marilyn Martinez has rightfully been returned to her classroom, we are still awaiting and demanding the return of Catlin Preston.
We also continue to demand that Garg's bans on parents Kaliris Salas-Ramirez and Jen Roesch, limiting access to their children, be rescinded. Transparency and authentic engagement of our school community will be integral in the selection of a new principal.
Our community has much work to do to heal, rebuild and move forward. Many in the district and beyond have reached out to us, inspired to fight for their own schools; if we can help or you'd like more information, please reach out at info@savecpe1.org.
As a result of your solidarity, we are successfully closing this petition. Thank you so much for all your support!
