The bill we’ve been advocating for is law now 🥹💜🎀

Yesterday, Bill C-16 received Royal Assent. 

This means coercive control is being taken seriously.

This means Maddies story touched so many lives throughout Canada, our government couldn’t ignore it. 

This means our petition we made was seen and heard loud enough.

This means Maddies legacy will carry on through every life this change protects. 

To the advocates, survivors, and everyone who fought for this, long before I became an advocate. This shouldn’t have taken this long. The harm of coercive control was real long before it was ever named in law, and that delay cost too much. But yesterday, change finally arrives, and it matters because of every voice that refused to stay quiet.

We’re not done yet, but this is a huge milestone and I’m very proud of all of us.
