In Memoriam, Private Lowell E. Hartshorn, Massachusetts 56th Veteran Volunteers, Co. A, Rebel POW, and who perished at the Infamous Rebel Prison at Andersonville, Georgia, along with nearly 750 other Massachusetts men, and with a total of nearly 13,000 Loyal Union Soldiers. They Chose "Death Before Dishonor" rather than Join the Rebel Cause.
Walpole's only recorded soldier to have died as a Prisoner of War, Private Hartshorn, along with his nearly 13,000 fellow Union Soldiers were constantly approached with an offer of their Freedom if they joined the Rebel Cause. They Refused.....They are NOT to be forgotten.
What is more important? A sports mascot? Or the Noble History of Sacrifice for Freedom, by a young veteran from a small New England Town?
Please click on this link to the Hartshorn Memorial, which includes the full dedication of the Massachusetts Monument at Andersonville.
I'm now asking folks to contribute at least $5.00 to this Petition...$5.00 allows for more exposure on Change.Org. I thank the nearly 1,500 Patriotic Americans who have signed this petition. You honor our Noble History...
