Stop the Pigeon Cull in Biggleswade

Stop the Pigeon Cull in Biggleswade
The Issue
It was reported on 21 February 2022 Biggleswade today and the BBC (links below) that Biggleswade Town Council had chosen to implement a cull of the pigeon population in the town centre. The reason for the cull was given that the pigeons are a "nuisance" and a health hazard.
The council has stated that the plan is to catch the pigeons using bait boxes over a 5 week period and then "humanely" shoot them. At the council meeting where this was discussed, council members also joked about roasting and eating the pigeons, which suggests the approach to the "problem" is not being taken seriously.
A lot of the immediate feedback on social media from the residents of Biggleswade is that they do not see the pigeon population as a problem at all. Many residents instead voiced their concerns such as about littering and fly tipping, and asked if time and resources could be spent by the Council on these issues instead.
It appears that the council's plan to kill the pigeons is viewed as inhumane and completely unnecessary. It has also been voiced as nonsensical as it is expected that once some pigeons are removed, others will come in to fill their place (so to speak).
I have created this petition so that Biggleswade residents (and others) can sign to voice their support for the pigeons and object to the culling in Biggleswade. The objective is to save the lives of pigeons and have them left alive and in situ. An alternative solution to dealing with the "problem" can be found without needing to kill the birds (e.g. focusing more litter collection and waste in the town which will attract the birds). Please sign and share if you agree.
I will likely update this very soon, I just wanted to get the ball rolling for now.
