TODAY: Tell the Dairy Industry, “Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk--Label It ‘Cow Milk’!”

It’s National Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day -- but the dairy industry has been doing just that by desperately challenging the labeling of popular plant milks as its own sales slip. Tell Big Dairy to stop crying over spilled milk by tweeting at the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) TODAY: https://ctt.ec/nFQdu! More and more consumers, concerned for their health and for animals, are ditching cow’s milk in favor of plant-based milks. According to a recent report by Packaged Facts, “Per capita consumption of fluid milk beverages decreased by close to 22% from 2000 to 2016. Through the same period, consumption of non-dairy plant-based milk alternatives has increased by triple digits.” And with so many consumers ditching dairy, the industry is left crying over spilled milk. First, they actually spilled the unwanted milk on purpose -- by wastefully dumping 43 million gallons of it! Then, they went after plant-based milks with a desperate appeal to the FDA to block these beverages from being labeled “milk,” citing consumer confusion. But consumers aren’t confused -- They’re clearly choosing dairy-free! Tell the NMPF that it’s time to stop crying over spilled milk and start helping consumers choose by clearly labeling its own products as what they are: milk made by cows, for cows and their babies. Click to tweet or use our sample below! https://ctt.ec/nFQdu SAMPLE TWEET: Consumers are clearly ditching dairy, but don’t cry over spilled milk, @NMPF. Help shoppers choose by labeling your own products “Cow Milk”. #DontCryOverSpilledMilkDay http://bit.ly/LabelCowMilk via @TryVeg
