Dear FOMC Members

The Chattanooga City Council will be hearing a presentation and recommendation by John Bridger of the Regional Planning Agency to formulate and adopt new ordinance(s) for development of Environmentally Sensitive areas on Tuesday November 5th.  This will include rules for Steep Slopes, Flood plains and preservation of greenspaces and trees.

Chattanooga has very few rules in place for development of environmentally sensitive areas and John has had to deal with permits on a case by case basis. Problems arising from developments across the city in the last few years have been categorized into twenty two areas of concern.  After examining how these issues are addressed elsewhere in the region, an RPA study has identified that Chattanooga’s current ordinances only address two areas.  John wants to get Chattanooga in line with every other city in the region with enforceable clear rules to preserve the integrity of the environment, keep Chattanooga beautiful and accommodate development.

Unfortunately the Building Trades Association is lobbying our Council members to resist adoption of new rules. Please demonstrate support for development and adoption of these new ordinances  at the City Council Chambers at 1000 Lindsay Street on Tuesday November 5 at 6 PM.
