BEYONCÉ COWBOY CARTER CALGARY

The Issue

This is a petition to bring the  COWBOY CARTER tour by Beyoncé to Calgary Alberta. Being a half black person in Alberta has been challenging my whole life. I never felt like I was able to fit in the western culture.

I was a part of pony club, 4H and worked in the heavy horse booth at Stampede. There is a lot of black culture that is often overlooked in Calgary especially for Black people that have been part of the western culture. COWBOY CARTER is an album that made me feel seen, made me feel like I didn’t have to make excuses, made me feel as though I could ride a horse and people shouldn’t look at me funny.

Not to mention, COWBOY CARTER has a Calgary roots. This ain’t Texas was partially credited to Ryan Beatty. A Canadian artist from Calgary.

The Calgary Stampede is supposed to represent all things western but there’s one thing missing from it. There’s a lack of recognition for black culture. John Ware is a name known to many but his story remains very much untold.

I respect the reasoning and premise of the Rodeo Chitlin Circuit. But POC in Canada also deserve to feel recognized. There’s a lot let of us here. I also love that COWBOY CARTER  has brought all people of cultures & backgrounds together.

I doubt this will get much traction & likely a lot of hate, but if you’ve read this all the way then you clearly understand the importance of this. AND that is why I believe strongly, that the  COWBOY CARTER TOUR should include Calgary. After all Alberta is supposed to be the Texas of Canada ;) YAHOO!

P.S. I know we don’t have the best venue space. But I’d regret not trying. If anyone can make it work, it’s Beyoncé. I’m in my delulu era. Let me.
