The planning application for the redevelopment of the Westbrook Centre is due to be decided by Cambridge City Council's Planning Committee on Wednesday 24th July. We were pleased to see that the planning officer has recommended delivery of links to Corona Road and Lilywhite Drive and continued exploration of a link to Gilbert Road are included as conditions of approval. However, we need your help to make sure these vital links form part of any approval.

Please contact councillors on the planning committee to let them know that you want them to improve walking and cycling links in the area by delivering the links to Corona Road and Lilywhite Drive and by ensuring that the city and county council continue negotiations with the Fellows House to provide a link to Gilbert Road. You can find details of councillors on the planning committee here.

We recently learned that in 2015 the council signed a legal agreement with the Fellows House Aparthotel for the hotel to contribute £10000 to creating a link to the Westbrook Centre access road. Unfortunately this agreement was amended in 2018 to instead use the money for cycle lanes on Gilbert Road, which has put this potential link at risk. The council should not let down the local community again, and should use all its powers and influence to achieve these much-needed, safe walking routes.
