Forge KN recently submitted their planning application (24/00622/FUL) to Cambridge City Council for redevelopment of the Westbrook Centre. The planning application can be viewed at:

https://www.greatercambridgeplanning.org/planning-applications/view-and-comment-on-planning-applications/

Since promoting our petition for new walking links late last year, we have met with the developer, local councillors, the planning officer, and the Fellows House Aparthotel. All have reacted positively to the aims and arguments we have made: quicker and safer walking routes for all ages including to nearby schools, to promote walking and cycling as sustainable modes of transport, and to reduce congestion and air pollution.

We're therefore extremely disappointed that the developer has ignored more than 300 people who signed our petition and has failed to include any of the walking links to Lilywhite Drive, Corona Road or Gilbert Road in their submitted application, leaving only a single access point to Milton Road. Quite frankly, this makes a mockery of their claim that this will be a 'pedestrian first' development.

Our campaign will be ramping up again over the next few weeks, and we will need your help to convince the developer and councillors that these links are needed and wanted. We will be drafting our response in the coming days and plan to share this with you all so that you can object to the lack of walking links in the application. If you would like to help draft our response or help in any other way, please get in touch via BetterWalkingWestChesterton@gmail.com

Thanks for your support,

Nick
