The parking at the pumphouse is not parking for a theatre. It's parking for a waterworks location and has never been updated to accommodate 100 plus theatre goers. On days where both theatres have performances, over 250 people need to park at the Pumphouse. The Pumphouse is losing out on the revenue of theatre companies wanting to put on larger shows.

Anyone who goes to see a show at the Pumphouse has to navigate the difficulties of parking and getting to the show. When it's snowy, icy or muddy the parking area itself is hazardous and the sidewalks are a danger to the theatregoers, cast and crew. Street parking is unacceptable in a location that has more than enough space to put in well lighted, well drained parking lot. 

Alternative parking options are too far away for theatre goers or largely inaccessible. If things don't change and parking is improved here someone is going to be injured trying to get to the theatre and the Pumphouse will continue to lose revenue as companies find similar venues with better parking.

Immediate action needs to be taken to assess the space, grade and pave a new parking lot, put in better parking lighting and sidewalks to allow patrons to get to the building. The Pumphouse is a fantastic community theatre venue and should be better supported by the City in its dedication to arts and culture in Calgary.

This should happen over the summer months of 2024 in order to enable theatre in Calgary for the 2024/2025 season to prosper and grow at the Pumphouse Theatre.
