Save the Bethlehem Town Park Dive Pool
The Issue
The dive pool at the Bethlehem Town Park has been an important part of our community for 40 years. Last summer the pool was found to be in disrepair and was closed for the summer. Many of you participated in a survey asking how you felt the town should handle the decision to repair or replace the dive pool. Although 68% of your responses supported repairing the dive pool regardless of the cost, sadly, the Bethlehem Town Board decided by a margin of 4-1 last week to move ahead and replace the dive pool with a water slide pool.
For many town residents, including myself, this is a heartbreaking decision. I have many fond memories of the dive pool as a child. I helped my niece muster the courage to jump off the diving board for the first time. I experienced the joy of watching her beam with pride as she climbed out of the pool after her first dive. I was hoping to share that same experience with my own young children.
I have put together this petition as a plea to the Town Board to reconsider their decision. Please sign the petition to let them know that although Jim Foster was the sole Board member in support of saving the dive pool he does not stand alone. The entire community agrees with him, we must SAVE THE DIVE POOL!
