Hi All,
First, thank you all again for your efforts! It's because of your support that I have been able to have lengthy conversation with upper-level corporate leaders.
With this, our work is still not complete. As all companies do, Best Buy has reorganized its retail operations with a heavy emphasis on cutting the allocation of hours stores are able to provide to their employees. This has caused positions to be cut and forcing full-time employees into part-time position or to be let go from the company. People who relied on their job at Best Buy for years are not being put in positions where they cannot pay their rent or put food on their table.
I have spoken with another Best Buy employee that has concern with this and has their own petition to raise awareness for the effects this will have on the people loosing hours or their job. The link is here https://www.coworker.org/petitions/best-buy-compensate-all-employees-affected-by-your-willful-labor-cuts?share=9e1477a6-462d-46f4-ae74-c4de2aa75a91
I have heard no updates from the corporate teams that have contacted me before about my suggestions and complaint. I have also not been working often so I cannot speak to any changes in retail policy, procedure, or guidelines. But I have not seen any public announcements that have appeared to address my concerns and outline their policy, procedure, and guidelines that would adequately resolve the my concerns.
One new thing announced by Best Buy is that they will be providing a one time bonus to all full-time and part-time hourly employees. For those who where let go of have been forced to move from full-time to part-time will receive the bonus amount offered for their position prior to their reassignment. This is a great offer by Best Buy and is well needed by employees. One thing I am unclear about is whether is bonus will be offered to employees that were shifted into occasional/seasonal position when being brought back from furlough last fall. I will be speaking with my store manager and/or an HR representative to find out this information.
Thank you, stay safe, stay healthy,
Joey
