So. I'm exhausted - but it's a GREAT kind of exhausted. Yesterday, I drove 10 hours round-trip to Burlington VT with Jud Hopkins and found Bernie's home (the yard decorated with numerous Secret Service folks who weren't terribly friendly). We had JUST missed Bernie addressing the various media encamped but we stuck around and lo and behold, the door opened and out came Bernie & Jane. They were climbing into cars and I shouted that we had a petition for Bernie. He waved but it was Jane who hesitated and then came down to us telling someone she "just wanted to say hello"... Jud introduced us and I explained about my petition asking Bernie to run NO MATTER WHAT - and that we drove from Maine to deliver it to him. Then I opened up the trunk of my car and brought out the box. Two packages of papers - the first held 602 printed pages containing 21,069 signatures and the second held 325 pages with 7,500 comments. She was down-to-earth and gracious and I felt as if I'd known her all my life. She took the box, amazed (well, who in this day and age actually PRINTS something like that?! - and who would DRIVE 10 hours to deliver it?!) and said she wanted to keep it safe - so she tucked it in their personal car. She grabbed the top sheet, the actual petition, waved it at us saying "Thank you!" and headed off with Bernie to their meeting. The petition is still up online and you can still sign it and leave comments. I will be printing the additional signatures and comments (there are now 21,373 signatures) and mailing them off to Bernie from time to time... (no more driving to Burlington!) so let's keep this going! Thanks for all you do!
