Hi Everyone,

While there hasn't been anything pubic, a committed group of people have been working behind the scenes to try to protect our single lane timber Cuttagee Bridge.

Here is an urgent request to contact all Councillors BEFORE next Wednesday:

12 August 2022 URGENT! Cuttagee Bridge needs your support NOW!

On Wednesday, August 17, Council votes on a Motion tabled by Councillor Helen O’Neil. The Motion proposes the preparation of a report for Council by staff, prior to the September Quarterly Budget Review. This report will outline the estimated cost to undertake/commission an options assessment to guide a future decision on the renewal/replacement of Cuttagee Bridge. The options comprise a single lane timber option, a composite one or two lane structure with timber superstructure, and a two lane concrete structure. The indicative criteria for assessment of options include whole of life costings, required bridge load capacity, environmental, social and heritage issues, traffic and pedestrian safety, essential services and local freight usage.

Councillor O’Neill’s Motion 13.1 can be viewed here: http://begavalley.infocouncil.biz/Open/2022/08/OC_17082022_AGN_754_AT_WEB.htm

The Save Cuttagee Bridge group will continue to fight for the retention and renewal of our beloved bridge. While Helen’s Motion does not guarantee that the bridge will be saved, it is a small first step towards achieving this goal. Most importantly, Helen’s motion limits the bridge load in the options assessment to 25 tonnes, a major factor in protecting the bridge, its environment and its community of users.

BVSC councillors need to know that the Bermagui community cares strongly about its bridge.

ACT NOW. Email the councillors listed below and express YOUR support for Helen’s Motion. Ask them to vote YES for the motion AS IT STANDS and RESIST any amendments that would threaten the retention of our beloved single lane timber bridge.
Most importantly, let them know that the Bermagui community does not want a two lane concrete bridge that will turn the Tathra Road into a major freight route.
