Been caught out parking after 8pm at West Quay Retail Park? Cancel fines! Make it fairer.

The Issue

Have you been unfairly caught out parking in the evening? Many of us have discovered too late that you can’t extend a daytime ticket past 8pm in one go - you’re forced to start a second (overnight) session within 10 minutes of 8pm. That’s not realistic if you’re at the theatre, cinema, or working late, and it’s led to avoidable fines.

We’re asking Britannia Parking, the carpark operator to put this right - starting with a review of recent appeals and goodwill cancellations where people were plainly caught out by the changeover.

What needs to change and what we are asking for…

  1. Review recent appeals and apply goodwill cancellations where motorists were clearly caught out by the 8pm changeover.
  2. Let us pay once for the whole evening: a single, combined purchase option (day + overnight) before 8pm.
  3. Add clear prompts/signage that warn when a stay crosses 8pm and offer a one‑tap “add overnight now” option.
  4. Provide a wider grace period at 8pm.
  5. Publish clear Blue Badge guidance and reasonable adjustments for those who can’t use a smartphone.

Why this matters
Back residents and Southampton businesses! A simple, transparent evening system means genuine customers can enjoy their night out without worrying about a penalty - and local shops, restaurants and venues don’t lose trade.
