Coverage in the Daily Echo of my petition against Britannia Parking and the management of the car park at West Quay Retail Park has helped us smash through our initial target of 100 signatures.

If you missed it, here is the Echo article: Petition to cancel ‘unfair’ West Quay Retail Park fines | Daily Echo.

Today I have been inundated with messages and emails from people sharing their experiences of being unfairly fined. I have already raised a number of these cases with the Director at Britannia Parking, with whom I am in direct correspondence, and asked that they urgently review them.

Alongside challenging Britannia Parking directly, I am pressing the Council to use every lever available to address these unfair practices. This includes exploring any influence the Council may hold as the freehold owner of the land - whether through direct engagement with the company or indirectly via the leaseholder. I have also contacted Trading Standards to ask whether they have any remit to investigate.

The more I hear, the more concerned I become about the scale of this issue. I will also be approaching the BBC to see whether they would be interested in taking this up - it may be one for the consumer rights strand on The One Show.

Please continue to share the petition and help shine a light on what is happening at this car park.

Best wishes,
Councillor Jeremy Moulton
