St. Helena Island OPPOSES Bay Point Destructionment @GullahGeechee

St. Helena Island native Gullah/Geechees, new residents, and supporters from other areas in Beaufort County, SC in the Gullah/Geechee Nation came out in mass to hear a proposal from "Sixth Senses / Bay Point Development LLC" which is actually owned by IHG Hotels. They are a luxury resort company that has couched their proposal as "ecofriendly" and "sustainable." However, they want to build on a highly erosional island called "Bay Point" which is adjacent to historic St. Helena Island, SC in the Gullah/Geechee Nation.
Gullah/Geechee people have been displaced by resort destructionment time and time again and they are now having to deal with increased erosion and climate change impacts due to these types of places. Bay Point is critical to the ecological balance of the Sea Islands including St. Helena Island. Tune in to hear how the community stood up in OPPOSITION to this proposal. An online petition has garnered support from around the world in OPPOSITION as well: http://chng.it/gcmmgqFq
Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) who is the founder of the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition presented the initial signatures to the county council members during the meeting as she spoke out against the project for a number of reasons.
