St. Helena Community Stands Up Against Bay Point Destructionment!
Tenki Tenki ta all hunnuh fa standin wid we! There was standing room only at the St. Helena Branch Library! We also had 1002 signatures in OPPOSITION to the Bay Point proposal to deliver to the Beaufort County Councilmen that represent St. Helena Island, SC tonight during the meeting with the property owner and the destructionment company that is calling itself "Six Senses / Bay Point Development LLC." If you do a Google search about them, you see that IHG is actually who owns them!
You will also find out that they are trying to open these places in all the island communities that are also fighting to maintain their cultural heritage in the face of the sea level rise issues associated with climate change. So, why is that the common thread? They are using "sustainability" as the attempted "hook" to lure these communities in while they are offering jobs ranging "from minimum wage to $100,000 for administration" and they will NOT guarantee that the jobs are for people of the local communities. In fact, one set of people at the St. Helena Island community hearing made it clear that they moved from another island where this same company built and they said, "That the resort they built there is a mess!" St. Helena Islanders and those who have moved to Beaufort County to retire made it clear that they do not want to clean up the mess of another destructionment company! 99% of those present spoke in or applauded in opposition to the entire presentation that was cloaked in environmental words to try to give the illusion of this actually being an eco-tourism and wellness project when it is a LUXURY RESORT! Beaufort County has had ENOUGH of those that have gone bankrupt as was pointed out tonight!
