The Issue

I recently visited the Memphis Zoo, and I was absolutely heartbroken to see the condition that one of the the polar bears was in. He appeared to be in extreme distress, both physically and mentally. He was pacing back and forth very anxiously the entire time I was there, he was missing quite a bit of fur and appeared to be underweight.

It was really hard to helplessly watch him in this awful condition, and I feel like something needs to be done to help this defenseless bear. If you could have seen his sad eyes and behaviors, you would have been just as devastated as I was.  Something has to be done.

After some research I have determined that if the polar bear that I saw this month, April 2021 is Koda, then he was just brought to the zoo in January 2021 for the purpose of breeding. This means his condition has rapidly deteriorated. The bear that I saw looks nothing like the healthy bear in the video in the link below. I have also included a link to the Memphis Zoo's introduction of Koda, as well as the link to the youtube video of Koda entering the exhibit for the first time.

Please sign this petition and help me do something for all of the polar bears at the Memphis Zoo, and possibly other zoos nation wide. It is imperative to evaluate the physical and mental health of these polar bears.  Also, the conditions of the polar bear exhibit need to be reevaluated so that they can have a much better quality of life. No animal deserves to live in a place where pacing back and forth frantically is the only thing they know, and they are not able to experience any comfort.
